The maximum allowed period for a student to complete the programme is:

For Full-time:

  • Full programme (24 modules): 4.5 years
  • Advanced 1 (16 modules): 3 years
  • Advanced 2 (12 modules): 2.5 years

For Part-time:

  • Full programme (24 modules): 9 years
  • Advanced 1 (16 modules): 6 years
  • Advanced 2 (12 modules): 4.5 years

Students who fail to complete the programme within the candidature period will not be entitled to refund.

Those who exceed their candidature period will not be allowed to remain in the programme unless an extension to the candidature period is approved by the University.

Curriculum

Structure

  • The mode of delivery is classroom learning.
  • The programmes focus on both the theory obtained in the classrooms, while students develop an understanding and the confidence to be effective in practice. Beside lectures, students do case studies, problem-solving exercises, projects and self-managed learning activities.
  • RMIT engages Singapore-based lecturers who demonstrated professional and academic competence. They are supported by RMIT Academic Staff who regularly visit Singapore for consulting, monitoring the programme, moderating assessment and intensive teaching sessions.

  • All lectures are held at SIM Headquarters, 461 Clementi Road, Singapore 599491.
  • Class requires a minimum of 50 students to commence.
  • In the event that the above minimum number is not met, the intake will not commence. Students will be informed within 30 days before class commences. 

For Full-time Programme:

  • Lectures are normally conducted by both RMIT Academic Staff and Local Lecturers.
  • Average teacher:student ratio is 1:73.
  • Full-time lectures are typically of 3 hours duration per session with 10 to 15 minutes break, which are held in the mornings or in the afternoons on weekdays.

For Part-time Programme:

  • Lectures are normally conducted by both RMIT Academic Staff and Local Lecturers.
  • Average teacher:student ratio is 1:22.
  • Part-time lectures are typically of 3 hours duration per session with 10 to 15 minutes break, which are held in the evenings from 7 to 10pm on weekdays or on Saturday afternoons.

Assessment & Attendance

  • Assessments vary from module to module. Students are normally assessed by continuous assessments in the form of mid-term class tests, individual and group assignments and projects, case studies discussion and class presentations.
  • Most modules have a final examination at the end of semester.
    • The examinations are held between late April and mid-May for semesters commencing in January and between late October and mid-November for semesters commencing in July.
    • The examinations are scheduled on weekdays and Saturdays, in the mornings and afternoons.
  • Students are usually allowed to repeat a module once only. For advanced modules with pre-requisites, students are required to satisfactorily meet the pre-requisites before undertaking the modules.
  • Attendance requirement:
    • Local students: 75%
    • International students: 90%

Requirements to Graduate

Students will be considered as being eligible for the award of Bachelor of Business (Marketing) when they have satisfactorily completed all academic requirements of the programme as detailed in the programme structure.

Admission Criteria

Accepted Entry Qualifications

Applicants will be assessed based on the following qualifications:

For Full Programme – 24 Modules

  • 3 GCE ‘A’ Level passes or
  • Minimum of 3 H2 level subjects with a pass or above

For Advanced 1 – 16 Modules

  • An RMIT approved non-business diploma from any of the local polytechnics will be granted up to 8 exemptions.

For Advanced 2 – 12 Modules

  • An RMIT approved relevant business diploma from SIM or any of the local polytechnics will be granted 12 exemptions.

Other qualifications will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the university.

If an applicant does not satisfy the minimum entry requirement, the applicant may be able to satisfy the requirement if they can produce evidence of other equivalent qualifications or combination of qualifications and experience as assessed by RMIT University on a case-by-case basis.

Exemptions

Applicants holding qualifications other than a recognised diploma from SIM GE or a Singapore local polytechnic, should apply for advanced standing at the time of application.

On receipt of a credit application, RMIT will assess your previous study to determine if the body of knowledge and practice has changed significantly.

If the course content has changed significantly and you have not maintained sustained practice in the field of study, your application may be rejected.

Diploma holders from SIM GE or a Singapore local polytechnic

Holders of a recognised diploma from SIM GE or a Singapore local polytechnic will be granted advanced standing in RMIT business degrees.

Depending on the degree in which a student enrols:

  • Diplomas categorised as business diplomas are granted 12 exemptions.
  • Diplomas categorised as non-business diplomas are granted up to 8 exemptions.

English Language Requirements

Applicants who have achieved one of the following qualifications/studies, where English is the language of teaching and assessment no more than two years prior to the RMIT program commencement date (unless otherwise advised), will meet the English language entry criteria to the program(s):

  • GCE ‘A’ levels at a Singaporean high school with
    • Minimum C or better in General Paper at AS / H1 Level; or
    • Minimum C grade in H2 subject (excluding language subjects and Mathematics and Music) for A level English – Singapore H2 (previously known as “A level” subject); or
  • SIM diplomas as approved by RMIT; or
  • Other RMIT approved local diplomas with duration less than 3 years; or
  • Candidates with 3-year full-time diploma qualification from a Singaporean Polytechnic, Lasalle College of the Arts, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts or B.C.A Academy, within 5 years prior to the commencement of the RMIT programme; or
  • A minimum of one-year full-time study in an award equivalent to an Australian diploma, advanced diploma, associate degree, bachelor degree; or
  • One semester full-time of a postgraduate qualification (equivalent to an Australian graduate certificate or higher).

Note:

Applicants will be deemed to have met the English Language criteria with no time limitation; if they have completed one of the abovementioned qualification/studies and have a minimum of 6 years primary/secondary studies of which a minimum of 2 years of this study was undertaken at secondary / senior secondary level, and where the studies was taught and assessed entirely in English from Singapore or other English-speaking country recognised by RMIT.

All other applicants can meet the English language entry criteria through the completion of one of the following approved English language proficiency tests no more than two years prior to the RMIT program commencement date:

  • IELTS (Academic): 6.5 (no band less than 6.0); 
  • TOEFL (internet-based test) – iBT: Overall score 79 (with minimum score of 13 in Reading, 12 in Listening, 18 in Speaking and 21 in Writing); 
  • Pearson Test of English (Academic) – PTE(A): 58 (no communication band less than 50);
  • Cambridge English (Advanced CAE): 176 with no less than 169 in any component;
  • RMIT English Worldwide (REW) Advanced Plus or equivalent; OR 
  • The completion of other equivalent qualifications, as approved by RMIT University.

COVID-19: Temporary Admissions Arrangement

In response to COVID-19 which has caused a number of cancellations and delays in English language testing, RMIT will temporarily accept the TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition and IELTS Indicator for programs that require up to IELTS (Academic) 7.0 with no band less than 6.5 (or equivalent) for semester 1 and 2, 2022 intakes. The requirements are the same as for their respective traditional tests.

RMIT will also temporarily extend the validity period for an approved English proficiency test for admission from two years to three years prior to the RMIT program commencement date semester 1 and 2, 2022 intakes (some exclusions apply where required for accreditation purposes).

Fees & Financial Aid

Actual semester fees may vary depending upon exemptions granted and modules taken. Not all modules will be offered every semester.

GST Notes
• Fees published are inclusive of current GST of 7%. The parts of fees not invoiced, not paid and where services are not rendered in year 2022 are subject to the new GST rates effective on 1 Jan 2023 and 1 Jan 2024 respectively. Refer to IRAS website here for more details.
• For invoice generated in 2022 for services to be rendered in 2023, if payment is collected by 2022, 7% GST will apply.
• For invoice generated in 2022, if the payment is received in 2023 and service is rendered in 2023, 8% GST will apply. Credit note against original invoice and a new invoice bearing 8% GST will be issued.
• For invoice generated in 2022 and service is rendered in 2022, if payment is collected in 2023 (i.e. late payment), 7% still applies.
 

Mandatory One-time Fees

All fees inclusive of prevailing GST.

Student Development Fee 

A one-time payment applicable to all students embarking on a full-time Diploma or Undergraduate programme at SIM. This fee goes towards activities that will help in students’ personal growth and equip them with functional skills that enhance their employability.

A one-time fee payable by new full-time international students. This fee covers pre-arrival and arrival support, including activities to enhance the international student learning experience.

Payable for each application form that is submitted. Fee is non-refundable and non-transferable. The fee will be refunded fully only if the intake does not commence. Unpaid applications will not be processed.
