Terence's life has been a testament to his resilience and determination in the face of adversity. From the loss of his father to the challenges of retaking exams and working part-time while studying, Terence's journey is filled with inspirational moments of courage, growth, and resilience.

The decision to retake his O'Level examinations was a challenging one. This was fuelled by his desire to pursue higher education and create more opportunities for himself. When Terence received his O'Level results and found that he had failed his exams badly, it was a devastating blow, especially just a day after his father's cremation. Instead of succumbing to despair, Terence bravely decided to retake his exams, determined to improve his grades and pursue higher education later. However, despite his improved results, he could only secure a spot at ITE, which initially felt like a setback.

Yet, Terence refused to be defined by his circumstances. The memory of Terence's late father played a significant role in his growth and self-discovery. This inner strength fuelled his desire to succeed, pushing him to change his behaviour, make friends, and actively engage in his studies at ITE. Terence felt a deep sense of responsibility to honour his father's memory by creating a better future. His dedication and hard work eventually paid off, and he progressed to Temasek Polytechnic and even received an offer from NUS. But, mindful of sharing the financial burden with his mother, he chose a part-time programme at SIM-RMIT, allowing him to work full-time while studying.

Throughout his life, Terence encountered moments of doubt and loneliness, but he refused to let setbacks define him. Instead, he used them as opportunities for growth. He sought inspiration from his mother's tireless efforts to provide for the family. Observing her selfless sacrifices motivated Terence to work even harder, to repay her efforts and ensure her well-being. His mother's dedication became a guiding force, instilling in him a strong work ethic and an unwavering determination to succeed.

Managing a part-time programme at SIM-RMIT while working full-time was challenging for Terence. It required him to juggle demanding work responsibilities, tight deadlines, and the pressures of academia. However, he remained steadfast in his commitment to his studies and job. Through effective time management, prioritisation, and a strong work ethic, Terence successfully balanced his responsibilities. He navigated the extenuating demands of his part-time programme and full-time work.

Completing his Bachelor of Business (Management) programme at SIM-RMIT profoundly impacted Terence's career growth. The programme equipped him with valuable knowledge and skills directly applicable to his work. It enhanced his critical thinking abilities, communication skills, and overall performance in the workplace. His promotion to Senior HR/Admin Executive validated his hard work and dedication.

Through his inspiring journey, Terence's message to others facing challenging times is one of perseverance, determination, and unwavering focus on their goals. He encourages others not to be discouraged by the progress of others but to move at their own pace and stay committed to their dreams. By remaining determined and resilient, they can overcome obstacles and eventually achieve the success they desire.

Terence's story is a shining example of how setbacks can be transformed into opportunities for growth. His resilience, inner strength, and unwavering commitment to his focus have propelled him forward and led him to be honoured with the esteemed Chairman's Award for Resilience. As he continues to work towards his goals, Terence inspires others, reminding them that they, too, can rise above adversity and create a brighter future for themselves and their loved ones.
