Course Overview

As more organisations embark on their digital transformation journey with the objectives of delivering innovative products and services to their customers, they will invariably be collecting, using and disclosing a lot of personal data under their custody. 

Organisations need to demonstrate accountability to their customers in the way they use and safeguard their personal data in order to gain their trust and confidence and continue to retain them as their customers. This would require organisations to establish a proper data protection management programme and governance structure, mitigate data protection risks and be able to effectively manage and respond to data breach incidents.


Course benefits

A highly interactive workshop with many workplace applications where learners would be given the opportunity to learn how to develop the organisation’s Data Protection Management Programme (DPMP) and to develop processes to handle data breach incidents.

At the end of this course, the participants will acquire the following:

1. Understand the components of a DPMP & it’s relationship to the data lifecycle

2. Document the flows of personal data within the organisation

3. PDPA Assessment Tool for Organisations (PATO)

4. Understand and determine how to seek consent to comply with the consent requirements of the PDPA

5. Develop processes to handle data breach incidents

6. Publish information on the organisation’s data protection policies, practices and compliant handling process

7. Designate data protection roles and responsibilities within the organisation

8. Adopt innovative processes and methods to comply with PDPA requirement

9. Submit reports of data protection measures to senior management

3. Data Protection by Design (DPbD) approach to incorporate data protection best practices

4. Data protection risk assessment using Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA)

5. Data Breach Management (CARE)

Programme leader

Yong Chye is currently the CEO and Co-founder of ACT:DPI Pte Ltd. He specializes in Data Protection training and consulting and is concurrently an Adjunct Lecturer with the National University of Singapore (NUS) School of Computing, a consultant/trainer with the Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) Academy and an Associate Trainer with the NTUC Learning Hub.

Yong Chye was previously the Chief trainer for the SG United Skills Programme for Data Protection Officer (SGUS-DPO). This programme was a collaboration between ACT:DPI and NTUC LearningHub, and 38 PMETs underwent the 6-month programme to become DPOs in 2021. He has taught close to 1,000 trainees to date on the Singapore Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA).
