Course Overview

The performance of individuals at the workplace is a function of several factors. Some of these factors relates to the organisation environment such as the structure and recognition system; at the same time, the individual’s motivation and ability play an important part too. Left on their own, individual team members may not necessarily perform up to their potential. They may not have clear developmental goals and a plan to achieve them. They may not be aware of their weaknesses and areas for improvement. This is where the role of team leaders in developing people comes in.

Developing people is an important responsibility of team leaders. Done adequately, it is an opportunity to bring the best out of their team members. Leaders would get to guide their members through goal-setting, leverage on the organisation’s resources to acquire competencies and support their development through coaching and mentoring. Over time, it allows the team leader to develop the members—and the team—to their fullest potential to contribute effectively to the organisation.

Course benefits

The course, Developing People, is a critical core skill endorsed by SkillsFuture Singapore. It aims to provide learners with the principles and techniques to guide their team members to set goals, formulate career plans, tap on organisation’s learning and development policy, provide feedback and reinforce positive behaviours. When learners apply these competencies, they will be able to develop their team members to have the capability and motivation to contribute effectively to the organisation’s objectives.
