SIM Lunar New Year Homecoming 2024 - Event Highlights
The Singapore Institute of Management's (SIM) Clementi Campus was abuzz with excitement and festivity on Saturday, 17 February 2024, as it played host to a vibrant celebration marking both the Lunar New Year and SIM's momentous 60th anniversary. The event saw a heartwarming gathering of around 250 attendees, including 170 proud alumni and 40 enthusiastic existing students, all coming together to celebrate the auspicious beginning of the Year of the Dragon.
Kicking off the day with a bang, the Lion and Dragon Dance troupe danced their way into the hearts of the attendees, their performance symbolizing the arrival of prosperity and a fresh start — a perfect tribute to both the Lunar New Year and the significant anniversary milestone.
Following the lively start, Prof. Wei Kwok Kee, SIM GE Provost, took the stage to deliver a warm welcome speech. His words resonated with the audience,
emphasizing the importance of unity, lifelong learning, and the enduring bond between the alumni, the students, and the institution.
The event seamlessly flowed into an interactive icebreaking session known as "Team Pen," where individuals from diverse backgrounds mingled, bonded, and penned down heartfelt wishes of "Happy 60th year SIM" to commemorate the occasion. This interactive session paved the way for the much-awaited Lohei, a highlight of the celebration, where attendees joyously tossed the Yusheng, making wishes for prosperity and success in the coming year.
Adding to the festive mood was an enlightening talk by Mr. Goh Kim Hua, Founder & President of SIM MBMDA, who shared insights on getting ready for the Year of the Dragon 2024. His speech was informative and inspiring, encouraging everyone to embrace the opportunities and challenges of the new year with courage and optimism.
The event was enhanced by captivating performances from a variety of student clubs, such as DreamWerkz, Esprimere, Guitar Club, and MCSIM. Each showcase highlighted the diverse talents present within the SIM community, lending a distinct charm to the festivities.
Dr. Maylyn Tan, in her session "Skills for Impact - how your expertise can make a positive difference," shared valuable insights into how individuals can leverage their skills for social good, resonating with the audience's desire to make a meaningful impact in their communities and beyond.
As the event concluded with a lucky draw, excitement continued to build within the SIM community for the upcoming SIM Family Day. Following the success of the Lunar New Year Homecoming, this anticipated gathering promises to further solidify the bonds of this dynamic and inclusive community.
Here's to a future brimming with more celebrations, learning, and growth together. Happy Year of the Dragon!
