SIM Appoints Provost to Lead Its Global Education

Professor Wei Kwok Kee, a highly respected education veteran, has joined SIM as Provost of its SIM Global Education starting from 1 April 2020.

Professor Wei Kwok Kee, a highly respected education veteran, has joined SIM as Provost of its SIM Global Education starting from 1 April 2020.

In this new role, Prof Wei will provide overall leadership for SIM's academic vision within the institute's broader mission of equipping and empowering learners for the future of work. As Provost, Prof Wei will positively impact learner's experience and outcome by spearheading best practices and innovations in skills-based learning. He will also enhance the intellectual climate, strengthen instruction and curricular as well as its faculty.

Prior to his appointment at SIM, Professor Wei was Provost's Chair Professor of Information Systems at the National University of Singapore (NUS), having founded its Department of Information Systems. He was also the Founding Dean of the School of Continuing and Lifelong Education (SCALE) at NUS. SCALE was established to provide continuing and lifelong education beyond that of a degree.

Professor Wei's experience in higher education also extends beyond Singapore to the City University of Hong Kong (CityU) where he spent 14 years from 2002 - 2016. His previous appointments there included the Chair Professor of Information Systems, Dean of the College of Business, and Head of the Department of Information Systems. During his tenure as business school Dean in CityU, Prof Wei has been credited for the significant improvement in its research ranking and undergraduate admissions scores, among many other achievements.

Under him, both NUS and CityU's Information Systems Departments were placed among the world's top 15 for their strong research culture and curricular that are aligned to Association of Information Systems (AIS) guidelines, thereby raising the international value of these programmes.

Professor Wei is a Fellow of AIS and was its President in 2003/4. He was awarded the AIS LEO Award for Lifetime Exceptional Achievement in Information Systems in 2015. He has published more than 200 widely cited journal and conference papers.
