Addressing this challenge, SIM Academy recently concluded a successful Learning & Development (L&D) event titled ‘Enabling Your Workforce for Sustainability Adoption’. The event attracted over 30 participants, including independent business owners, SMEs, and MNCs. A highlight of the event was a panel discussion featuring distinguished experts: Ms Bee Lay Tan, Partner & Managing Director at Global Green Connect; Mr Jimmy Ong, Learning and Development Programme Manager at HP; and Dr Davin Wang, Chief Learning Officer at SIM Academy. The panel focused on critical strategies for engaging employees and stakeholders in successful sustainability initiatives.

Ms. Bee Lay provided valuable insights into sustainability adaptation and mitigation trends within the Green Economy. She discussed how to equip the workforce with green skills needed in emerging sectors such as agrifood, sustainable finance, and carbon management. She highlighted three highly transferable green skills showing significant growth momentum:

  • Environmental and social governance
  • Carbon footprint management
  • Sustainable manufacturing
Mr Jimmy Ong joined Ms Bee Lay in exploring the importance of implementing sustainable practices and fostering a mindset shift among employees and stakeholders. They emphasised that while engagement has always been crucial for advancing sustainability initiatives, there is a noticeable shift towards adopting a Systems Thinking perspective. This approach recognises that sustainability requires a collective effort and systemic change at various organisational levels.

The event underscored the importance of prioritising sustainability and provided practical guidance for organisations to develop and implement effective sustainability strategies.
