The Master of Computing (Data Analytics) programme is designed to develop the next generation computing professionals who possess broad knowledge and a deep understanding of technical, managerial and ethical aspects of computing practices. The data analytics specialisation has a focus on applying cutting edge technologies to deliver data driven insights and intelligence.

 

  • Students in the UOW programme at SIM are eligible to transfer to the Wollongong campus but subject to separate application and enrolment process.

Learning Outcomes

The curriculum is anchored in systems analysis, design and implementation of information systems. Graduates will gain:

  1. Understanding of the organisational, social and data management aspects of business
  2. Understanding of software design, implementation and testing methodologies
  3. Appreciation of appropriate user interaction entities
  1. Exposure to the challenges faced in managing and administrating information systems across different environments, and the solutions and technologies available
  2. Familiarity with the security needs of systems
  3. Industry experience through an internship programme
  4. Working knowledge of real-world enterprise systems such as enterprise resource planning (ERP), customer relationship management (CRM), supply chain management, and product lifecycle management

The completion date may vary depending on the exemptions granted (if any).

Maximum 3 times the duration for completion under a standard full-time load, subject to meeting ongoing course progression rules.

There will not be any refund should the student fail to complete the programme within the maximum allowed period.

Students who exceed their candidature period will not be allowed to remain in the programme, unless an extension to the candidature period is approved by the University.

Curriculum

Structure

  • This programme is taught in Singapore by local academics and/or practitioners, as well as UOW academics.
  • Average teacher-student ratio is 1:36.
  • The course is intensive and demanding but rewarding and achievable.
  • Classes include face-to-face lectures, tutorials and lab sessions.
  • Classes are typically in 3-hour blocks: 8:30 – 11:30am, 12noon – 3pm, or 3:30 – 6:30pm on weekdays and may be held on Saturday mornings and/or afternoons (subject to timetable).
  • Classes delivered by UOW academics are conducted in an intensive mode – a continuous block of seven days for each module.
  • The programme will be co-delivered by the UOW faculty and the SIM associate lecturers through blended delivery including face-to-face lectures and online synchronous.
  • Students typically study two modules per term. Each year comprises of 4 terms.
  • Minimum class size to commence: 24 students
  • In the event that the minimum number is not met, the intake may not commence. The student shall be informed within one month before programme commencement.

Assessment & Attendance

  • Students are normally assessed by continuous assessment in the following form:
    • Assignments
    • Class tests
    • Laboratory exercises
    • Practical laboratory tests
    • Presentations
    • Projects
    • Tutorial exercises
  • Some assignments and presentations will be group-based. Assessment may have minimum achievement requirement necessary to pass the module.
  • Most modules have a final examination at the end of term.
  • Students are to pass all modules within the current year of study before proceeding to the next year of study. For modules with pre-requisites, students may be required to meet the pre-requisites before undertaking the modules.
  • Attendance requirement:
    • Local students: 80%
    • International students: 90%

Requirements to Graduate

Students who successfully completes all academic requirements of the programme will be awarded the Master of Computing (Data Analytics) by the University of Wollongong, Australia.

A degree conferral ceremony will be held in Singapore.

To be awarded the Master of Computing (Data Analytics), student must complete, or be exempted from completing (depending on their advanced standing status), a total of 8 modules comprising of core modules, elective module and one final year project.

Admission Criteria

Accepted Entry Qualifications

The following qualifications are accepted:

  • A recognised IT / Computer Science Bachelor's degree
  • SIM Graduate Diploma in Business Analytics will be required for the below group of applicants:
    • A non IT / Computer Science Bachelor's degree
    • Applicants who are Diploma holders with at least 8 years work experience and are 30 years and above


 

Applicants may be admitted to different credit exemptions based on their academic results.

Exemptions are normally granted automatically to students with the completion of SIM Graduate Diploma in Business Analytics OR a recognised IT/ Computer Science Bachelor's degree

Equivalent International Qualifications

International applicants has the same entry requirement as local applicants.

English Language Requirements

International students (non-nationals of Singapore) must satisfy the following University of Wollongong English language requirements, or their equivalent:
  • IELTS Academic - 6.5 (no band less than 6.0)
  • Successful completion of recognised approved Diploma qualification or higher, where the language of instruction was English
