Building solid tertiary foundation in nursing 

The programme is for state-registered nurses (holding a certificate or diploma) who wish to upgrade their qualification to Bachelor level. It is developed to equip you with critical thinking skills and research understanding. 

The main objective of the programme is to enable you to be more confident in your role as a nurse in a healthcare team and in the provision of excellence in nursing care. 

  • The Bachelor of Nursing (Post-Registration) programme is accredited by the Singapore Nursing Board.

Candidature Period:

Part-time 1-year: Students are required to complete the programme in 2 years.

Part-time 2 years: Students are required to complete the programme in 4 years.

There will not be any refund should the student fail to complete the course within the maximum allowed period.

Students who exceed their candidature period will not be allowed to remain in the programme, unless an extension to the candidature period is approved by the University.

Curriculum

Structure

  • The programme is delivered in Singapore in a block mode. Blended learning includes Face-to-face teaching for lectures and tutorials and supported by online learning. 
  • Students require access to the Internet on a regular basis for eLearning.  
  • The programme is fully taught by University of Sydney’s Sydney Nursing School academics.

  • Each lecture is typically 3 hours held on weekdays late afternoon and/or evenings. Each tutorial or clinical laboratory session is typically 2 to 3 hours. 
  • Minimum class size to commence: 90 students 
    In the event that the minimum number is not met, the intake may not commence. The student shall be informed within one month before programme commencement. 
  • Average teacher-student ratio: 
    • (1-year programme) 1:41 
    • (2-year programme) 1:40 

Assessment & Attendance

  • Each unit of study has a number of assessments. These include individual / group assignments, essays, presentations, case studies, formal reports, online activities / quizzes, worksheets, research activities and exams.  
  • Exams are usually held during the University’s allocated examination periods. All examinations are normally held on weekdays. 
  • Students are required to achieve an overall minimum pass of 50% for each study unit; however, the minimum pass mark may vary in some units. 
  • To achieve a minimum grade of pass, students are required to: 
    • submit all assignments and attend exams
    • meet any eLearning participation requirements where applicable
    • achieve the stated overall minimum pass mark in each unit of study
    • comply with on-campus attendance requirements
    • comply with assignment submission requirements including presentation and academic honesty 
  • Attendance requirement: 90% 

Requirements to Graduate

  • Students who successfully complete all academic requirements of the programme will be awarded the Bachelor of Nursing by the University of Sydney, Australia.
  • A degree conferral ceremony will be held in Singapore.

Admission Criteria

Accepted Entry Qualifications

The following qualifications are accepted:

  • Diploma in Nursing from Nanyang Polytechnic or Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore; OR
  • Diploma in Nursing from an approved institution; OR
  • Certificate in Nursing from the Singapore School of Nursing or equivalent

Applicants must also:

 
Applicants with international qualification are required to provide evidence of proficiency in English Language, reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

The University of Sydney undertakes selection for admission to the course. Applicants for the 1-year course are advised not to attempt to maintain full-time employment while completing the course. Sydney Nursing School considers a full-time workload will preclude students from satisfactorily meeting the academic requirements of the course. However, the level of employment a student wishes to maintain during the course is at the student’s discretion.
