21 June 2021: Guidelines for Phase 3 (Heightened Alert)

The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education have announced measures for a calibrated re-opening for Phase 3 (Heightened Alert).

In view of their advisories, we will be adopting the following guidelines for this new Phase with effect from 21 June, subject to further advice from the authorities:

1) Classes
We will progressively increase the number of students allowed back on campus for in-person learning. Where possible, we will conduct in-person classes and lectures with no more than 50 persons attending. Classes and lectures with more than 50 persons will continue to be held online.

For in-person examinations, they will be conducted with no more than 50 persons per venue. Where practicable, examinations and assessments will also be held online.

All in-person classes and examinations will be subject to strict safe management measures including wearing of mask at all times and safe distancing between students.

For students who were told earlier their classes in June and July would be on campus, they will be receiving specific instructions with regard to the arrangement of their classes from their respective programme administrators via email or SIMConnect.

2) Entry to Campus and Safe Management Measures
The procedure for entry to the campus remains – students are to show class registration or time-table at the entry point to the campus. We will continue to have temperature screening at the entrance point. Students with Acute Respiratory Infection symptoms will be required to stay away from the campus and advised to see a doctor.

To enter the campus, students must check in using their TraceTogether app. While on campus, they are to wear a mask and carry their TraceTogether token or app with them at all times to facilitate accurate contact tracing, should the need arise.

Students who need to come back to campus for self-study as their home environments may not be conducive may submit their application via https://simlibrary.appointeze.com/online. Students without approval will not be allowed entry to the campus.

3) Social Gatherings
The limit on each social gathering group size has been increased from two to five persons. However, students are to continue to minimise social gatherings as far as possible while on campus. They are to maintain a group size of not more than five persons across all gatherings with safe management measures in place. No cross-group interaction is allowed.

Please also take note of the authorities’ advice to limit our social circle to a small group of regular contacts and the number of our social gatherings to no more than two per day.

4) Group Activities
Please refer to the advisories by Sport Singapore and National Arts Council for specific safe management measures for conducting of sport, physical, arts and cultural activities.

5) Services and Facilities
Please see the table below for the operation of services and facilities at the SIM HQ campus, with effect from 21 June.

Dining-in will be allowed at the specified food and beverage outlets below, capped at a maximum of two persons per group. Please maintain at least one metre safe distancing from other groups as well as from other people when queuing, keep mask on at all times except when eating or drinking, and leave the outlet immediately after finishing the meal.

Updates 11

30 June 2020: Gradual Resumption of In-Person Continuing Education and Training at SIM Management House (Namly Avenue)

With the announcement of Phase 2 of the Post-Circuit Breaker period from 19 June, SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) has informed all Training Providers (TPs) that in-person training will be permitted for all Continuing Education and Training (CET) activities.

In view of this advisory and with due consideration for the safety of our learners and trainers, SIM Professional Development and Enterprise Learning will be taking a calibrated and gradual approach towards resuming in-person training at SIM Management House at Namly Avenue.

Hence, from 13 July, we will be resuming in-person training at Management House for some programmes while others will continue to be conducted online. Please look out for our detailed advisory on arrangements for the training you have enrolled in.

To safeguard the safety and health of our staff, trainers and learners who will be on campus to attend or support your training at Management House, we ask that you comply with the following safety measures put in place:

  • Safe entry requirements with temperature screening will be enforced at the entrance to Management House.
  • Visitors having a temperature of higher than 37.5°C after repeated screenings will be denied entry and asked to see a doctor. Those who are unwell, or have household members on Quarantine Order / Stay Home Notice or with flu-like symptoms such as fever and cough, will also be denied entry.
  • All visitors are required to wear their masks and maintain 1m distancing from others at all times.
  • All training and dining rooms have been set up to adhere to safe distancing requirements and sanitisation of these rooms will be conducted during the breaks.
  • Meals will be served in bento boxes to minimise cross-contamination.

We seek your continued patience and support as we continue to do our best to keep our campus safe for everyone.

If you need further clarification on this advisory or require any assistance in other areas, please email exec@sim.edu.sg.

Updates 10

27 June 2020: Updates on Phase 2 of Post-Circuit Breaker Period

With the announcement of Phase 2 of the Post-Circuit Breaker period from 19 June, the Committee for Private Education has advised Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) to maintain a significant amount of online learning while progressively increasing the number of students allowed back on campus for in-person learning. All large-scale classes and lectures will continue to be held online. Similarly, large-scale activities will not be allowed.

In view of the advisory and with due consideration for the safety of our students, we will be taking a careful and calibrated approach towards resuming in-person classes. Hence, online learning for all students will continue for July 2020.

This will allow us to work out the necessary arrangements for class scheduling and safe management measures required by the Ministry of Education so that we can safely and progressively start in-person classes from August 2020. Updates for your respective programmes will be posted on SIMConnect News before end of July.

Due to the upcoming exams in July and August, we understand that some students may need to come back for self-study on campus as their home environments may not be conducive. From Monday, 6 July, we will allow a small number of students who have a genuine need to do so under strict safety controls. More details on how to apply, criteria for approval and safe management requirements will be posted on SIMConnect News next week. FoodFest, the F&B outlet in Block B will be open to cater to staff doing essential work and self-study students.

Despite the gradual easing of restrictions in Phase 2, we hope you will continue to stay vigilant and do your part in adhering to the safe measures put in place by the Government.

Updates 9

23 May 2020: Updates on Circuit Breaker Exit (Phase 1)

The Government has announced that with the end of the circuit breaker period, Singapore will be entering the phase of safe opening in a calibrated manner from 2 June 2020.

Institutes of higher learning (IHLs) will continue to have lectures and tutorials online with only a limited number of students allowed to return to campus for practical and lab-based sessions. We have no practical or lab-based classes in June.

Only a very small group of staff and service personnel who need to be on campus to provide essential services and support will be approved by the Ministry of Education to work from campus.

Both the SIM campuses at Clementi Road and Namly Avenue will remain closed, and online learning will continue till further instructions from the authorities.

While our current situation is improving and circuit breaker measures are progressively eased, our battle against COVID-19 is far from over. Hence, we urge you to continue to comply with all measures still in place and work together to keep the virus at bay and our community safe.

22 April 2020: SIM Campus Closure from 8 Apr – 1 June 2020

The Singapore Government announced on 21 April 2020 that the circuit breaker period has been extended to 1 June 2020 to further curb the spread of Covid-19.

In line with this measure, both the SIM campuses at Clementi Road and Namly Avenue will remain closed from 8 April 2020 till 1 June 2020 (inclusive). Students and staff will not be allowed entry into campus during this period.

SIM has implemented online learning for all its classes, and this will continue throughout the extended circuit breaker period. If you have examinations during this period, you will be informed separately of the alternative arrangements.

We urge each and every one of you to do your part and adhere to the stricter measures put in place by the Government, no matter how inconvenient they may be. Only by taking the measures seriously and being individually vigilant can we put a stop to the spread of the virus in the community.

6 April 2020: SIM closes campus from 8 April – 4 May 2020

The Singapore Government announced on 3 April 2020 that all schools, including Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs), will close and move to full home-based learning from 8 April to 4 May 2020.

In line with this measure, both our campuses at Clementi Road and Namly Avenue will be closed from Tuesday, 7 April, 2359 hrs to Monday, 4 May (inclusive) 2020. Students and staff will not be allowed entry into campus during this closure period.

All SIM students will do online learning and you should have received instructions regarding your online learning by now. If you have examinations during this period, you will be informed separately of the alternative arrangements for your examinations.

All SIM staff will be telecommuting from home and only a limited number of staff will be on campus to provide essential services with the permission of the authorities.

If you need to urgently return to campus to retrieve personal belongings from your lockers, please do so before the campus closure.

The number of community spread cases are rising rapidly. The next few weeks will be critical for all of us to do our part to help our government bring the situation under control. We urge all of us to strictly comply with the stricter measures in place, no matter how inconvenient they may be. These  include staying at home as much as possible, stopping non-essential activities, avoiding social gatherings, and adopting safe distancing and good hygiene practices.

Let’s work together as a community to help one another through this so that we will overcome the virus and emerge stronger.

During the campus closure, we will continue to provide you with the all necessary support that we can render, within the boundaries of what the government has implemented. Please refer to the following details of services available during this period.

1 April 2020: New COVID-19 Case

A part-time SIM student has been tested positive for COVID-19 on 31 March 2020. Like the first two cases, he is linked to a COVID-19 patient outside of SIM who is not related to SIM. He went straight to his classroom and left campus after that. He did not use other SIM facilities.

20 Mar 2020SIM Student infected by COVID-19

We are writing to inform you that one of our students who was linked to the Aperia Mall boulder+Gym cluster has been tested positive for COVID-19 on 18 March 2020. This student  is Case 305 announced on Wednesday by the Ministry of Health. As a result of the contact tracing of the Aperia Mall cluster, the student was put on Quarantine Order (QO) from 8 to 19 March and his diagnosis was made while he was still on QO. The student is now under the care of doctors at NCID and is coping well.

What is being done

  • Help for Student
Our counsellors have been activated to provide the necessary support for our student.
  • Intensive Cleaning
We want to reassure our community that our cleaners have been conducting cleaning of the campus four times daily since the start of the COVID-19. We will continue to keep up with this rigour to keep our campus safe for all. As an added precaution, we will close down both our Clementi Road and Namly Avenue campuses for two days this weekend (Saturday, 21 March and Sunday, 22 March) to conduct disinfectant cleaning of the whole campus. The cleaning will include all our food outlets, library and common areas.
  • Online Learning
To minimise human contact and the risk of exposure for everyone, and allow you to continue with your learning, we have moved a majority of our classes online from April to June. In fact, some online classes have already started on 19 March. This has been announced in an earlier notice to all students. Please access myMail for the details, and make full use of the available online resources.

16 Mar 2020:
SUSS Student infected by Covid-19

We have been informed of a Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) part-time Social Work student who was tested positive for the COVID-19 virus on 14 March 2020. This is Case 214. The student reported onset of symptoms on 5 March 2020, and has no recent travel history to affected countries and regions. He is linked to a case outside of SUSS and SIM and was last on campus on the evening of 12 March 2020. He went straight to his classroom and left campus after the lesson. The student is now under the care of doctors at NCID and is coping well.

What is being done
SUSS shares SIM Campus at Clementi Road. Upon notification of the case, we have undertaken deep cleaning and disinfecting of the areas in which the student spent time. SUSS is also working closely with the relevant authorities to do Contact Tracing of those who had close contact with the affected student. All those in close contact have already been put on Leave of Absence and some may be put on quarantine later on.

Your safety in our campus is of utmost importance to us. Other important precautionary measures remain in force on campus:

  • Temperature taking
  • Travel declarations
  • Increased frequency of cleaning of campus facilities (up to four times daily)

What You can do
We urge all of you to stay calm and vigilant and continue to play our part in keeping our campus safe. Please comply with all stated precautionary measures and give your full co-operation. Continue to practise good personal hygiene, and look out for each other. You have our commitment that we will do our utmost to continue to keep our campus safe. We urge you to refrain from posting inaccurate information on social media. If you have additional enquiries, please contact us at the SIM contacts below. Thank you for all your support and cooperation. Let’s continue to do our part to stay resilient and overcome the virus together.

Updates 2

13 Feb 2020: We confirm that there is no COVID-19 case at SIM. Earlier this evening a staff from the SIM Kampong Foodcourt had taken ill at 7pm and sent to Ng Teng Fong Hospital. We have at 10.50 PM received written confirmation from the hospital that the canteen staff had presented with dizziness but had no other respiratory symptoms. His blood tests were normal and he has been discharged with no further follow up needed. As a precautionary measure, we had immediately undertaken disinfecting cleaning of the foodcourt and the common areas around it, and will keep up with the cleaning of all our common facilities to keep our campus safe. We remind the SIM community to check the facts directly with SIM before posting unfounded news that can cause undue panic.

Updates 1

30 Jan 2020: We are aware that there was an Instagram posting about a suspect coronavirus case in SIM. This is untrue. We confirm there is no coronavirus case at SIM. SIM carries out routine cleaning of all its teaching facilities as part of the precautionary measures taken to prevent the coronavirus infection and protect our campus and community. We advise all SIM students to clarify with SIM directly when encountered with such news instead of spreading fake news and causing undue alarm.
